hibi- wear

I took a ceramics class at college. It was the third semester for me.
I practiced on the wheel so hard! It's called throwing. I learned a lot from my teacher. Finally I made useful hibi-wears!
I really liked this brown cray and green glaze.

Throwing is really fun and It's kind of meditation. I really want to come back to ceramics class sometime soon. I think... I need meditation sometimes :)

Lemon Sage Linguine part 1

I bought fresh lemon sage linguine and garlic basil pesto at Kensington farmer's market. I smelled the linguine and It was fresh and lemony.

I boiled the linguine really carefully because I needed perfect al dente!! The pesto tasted sooooo good. I think I will buy more. I also sauted Mahi Mahi. Fresh squeezed lemon gave a nice kick!

Sesame Spinach

I made this green bowl! I was thinking what kind of food would look good in this bowl....? Then I made typical Japanese spinach salad. This is power food!! Good for your health.

Rinse 1 bunch of spinach. Add a pinch of salt to a pot of boiling water. Put the spinach into the pot and cook for 1 minute and 30 sec. Using a strainer, remove spinach from the pot and shock it in cold water. When the spinach is completely cool, roll the spinach into a log so that the stems and the leaves are on opposite sides.

Sesame sauce
3tbs ground sesame
2tbs soy sauce
3tbs sugar
1tbs sake

Cut spinach about 2 inches each. Combine with sesame sauce.

Kabocha "Home Run" Soup

We went to Blue Boheme. I ordered carrot soup. It was soooooooo awesome!!

The carrot soup inspired me. It was creamy and homey. I wanted to cook soup, then I made a Kabocha soup for tonight.

about 1/4 pound kabocha
1 medium size onion
3 sliced bacon
1 tbs butter
2. 1/2 chicken broth
1/3 cup of couscous

Cut the kabocha into about 1 inch cubes. Boil it for about 10 minutes. Drain the water. In the mean time slice the onion. In a saute pan heat 1 tbs of butter then add the sliced onion and stir-fry until lightly browned. Add chopped bacon. Stir-fry for 10 more minutes. Add the boiled kabocha and mix well.

Take the contents of the saute pan and put it into a blender. Add chicken broth and blend until smooth. Then pour the mixture back into the pan. Warm up the soup and adjust the taste with salt.

I used salted butter and thick black pepper spiced bacon. If you want to control the saltiness, you can use unsalted butter and regular bacon.

I think I picked a good kabocha! It was sweet and tasty.
That's why my husband said the soup was a Home Run!!

Sushi is a luxury food for me. I don't eat high quality sushi like this often. This was definitely a treat!

I went back to Japan for about 2 weeks. I had good time with my family and friends. I expected lots of rain and high humidity. June is usually the rainy season. We call "Tsuyu". But It was really comfortable, kind of dry weather.
